The Company Dossier is a detailed report that draws together information available in Nexis Uni about a company in one place.

To access the Company Dossier search page click the Menu link located on the upper left hand side of any Nexis Uni page and then click Company Dossier in the drop down list. 

From the Company Dossier page, search for company by name. ticker symbol, company type (private or public, parent or subsidiary).

In the example the company COMCAST was searched. Nexis Uni returned 3 results. Since the stock ticker for COMCAST is CMCSA, the first result is the company that is selected. 

From the company's overview page click on the links to the left hand side of the page to view the different parts of the Dossier. 

How to cite Company Dossier (APA Style Blog) 

The Nexis Uni Dossier pulls information from different parts of Nexis Uni creating a convenient report. Do not cite the Nexis Uni Company Dossier when citing information found within a news article, financial report, or legal document. Instead cite the document where the cited information was originally published.

If you need to cite information only found within the Company Dossier, then use the name of the database as the source.

From the Nexus Uni home page click Company Info from the What are you interested box. Then enter the company name and select the information from the and show me dropdown box (All Company Information, Company Info, Analyst Reports, Merger and Acquisition, SEC filings).

EDGAR 

EDGAR (Electronic Data Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval system) is  is the primary system for companies and others submitting documents under the Securities Act of 1933, the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Trust Indenture Act of 1939, and the Investment Company Act of 1940. 

All companies, foreign and domestic, are required to file registration statements, periodic reports, and other forms electronically through EDGAR. Anyone can access and download this information for free. 

EDGAR allows users to search for 10-K and 10-Q reports. 

10-K Report

10-K reports are fully descriptive reports that include the company's financial activity during a given fiscal year and a full rundown of risks, legalities, corporate agreements, and market performance. 10-K reports also provide a full analysis of the relevant industry, the marketplace as a whole, and individual business operations.

10-Q Report

10-Q reports are quarterly reports, they are not as comprehensive as the 10-K reports but may include more recent information that will later be reported on in the subsequent annual 10-K report.

How to Search EDGAR

Go to the Edgar Full-text search page and enter either the name of a company or the company's stock symbol that you are searching for. Notice that the company name will include the stock symbol in parenthesis [in the example below a search for Disney results in a  suggestion for Walt Disney Co. (DIS). Clicking on this suggestion will allow you to search for reports filed by the Walt Disney Co.]

REFINING THE EDGAR SEARCH RESULTS PAGE

The search result page will include many different filings. EDGAR data goes back to the year 2000. You can refine your search by clicking on the Form refinement tool and clicking on either 10-Q or 10-K, this will limit results to the desired report. To view a report simply click on the link listed in the Form & File column.

VIEWING REPORTS IN EDGAR

Click on OPEN to view the report.

SEARCHING WITHIN A REPORT

Press CTRL and F at the same time to open the filter option. Now you will be able to search the document's full-text. In the example, a search was conducted for "Media Networks" which was mentioned 66 times within the text.

COMPANY INFORMATION SEARCH

Search for Company Information by clicking on the link located in the upper left hand side of the page. 

Enter the name of a company then click Search.

Then chose the name of the company. Hint match the stock ticker symbol to verify the correct company. 

View information about the Company by clicking on the links located on the right hand side of the page. Also related companies can be found by clicking on the available industry description links located on the left hand side of the page.
