Act for the Prosecution of the Mexican WarThe article presents the act approved on May 13, 1846 providing for the prosecution of the existing war between the United States and the Republic of Mexico. As enacted by Congress, and for the purpose of enabling the government of the United States to prosecute its war with Mexico to a speedy and successful end, the act authorizes the President of the United States to employ all military forces and volunteers to fight the war and releases ten million dollars in order to carry out the provisions of this act. Sections two through seven concern the recruitment, service, furnishing, pay, organization, and medical benefits of volunteers. Section eight authorizes the President of the United States to arm, equip, and man merchant vessels as armed vessels fit for public service.
