Title Page
MLA 9th edition does not require a stand-alone title page.
Student papers usually begin with the author's name, faculty member's name, course information, and date. After this information, the title should be entered and the paper's text should begin on the next double-spaced page.
Author Information
The author's name should appear on the first line of the paper (one inch from the top of the page) and flush to the left side of the page (left margin).
On the next double-spaced line type the faculty member's name.
On the next double-spaced line type the course name and number.
On the next double-spaced line type the date.
Paper Title
After the date on the next double-spaced line type the title of the paper. The paper's title should be entered in regular font (for example Times New Roman 11-13 point font) Do not italicize, underline, place in boldface, place inside quotation marks, or type in capital letters. Italicize words that would be italicized in the text of the paper (for example the title of a book or the title of a journal or newspaper). Do not enter a period after the title or any other headings in the paper (for example Works Cited).
Running Header and Page Numbers
Page numbers should appear on the first page of the paper and all other pages of the paper including the Work Cited page.
Most modern word processors allow users to automatically enter page numbers on each page.
Enter the author's name before the page number. One space should separate the author's name and the page number.
Do not precede the page number with a p. or a dash (-).
